Norwalk went from farmland to a city of tens of thousands inside a single decade. The tracts that went up through the 1950s were built quickly and to a price, and the chimneys reflect that: light masonry stacks on shallow footings, tile-lined, with minimal crown detail and no cap as standard. Almost nobody in Los Angeles County heats with a fireplace.
